Irrigation
Sustainability Resources
The Ritso Society has embarked on a project to develop an Irrigation Scheme Sustainability Code. It will take a pro-active and preventative approach, to show that irrigation and intensification of land use can be developed using innovative solutions that both increase economic wealth and maintain high environmental standards. Social challenges, opportunities and benefits will also be a component of the project.
The project will bring together the wide range of information on irrigation and develop a generic Irrigation Scheme Sustainability Code, which will then be tailored to the Canterbury Central Plains Scheme. The code will be relevant to existing irrigation schemes and proposed schemes throughout New Zealand.
This programme has been assisted by a grant from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Sustainable Farming Fund.
Reports commissioned by The Ritso Society can be downloaded from the Reports page on this site.
